Supporting people who lack capacity and have no family

This self-assessment helps you reflect on your confidence when supporting a person who may lack capacity for a specific decision and has no family or friends able to support them. It is aligned with UK care expectations, the Mental Capacity Act, advocacy routes and safe person-centred practice. It does not prove competence. It helps identify learning needs and points to discuss in supervision. Any score of 1 or 2 should be treated as a priority learning need. Follow employer policy and speak with your manager, supervisor or designated lead before carrying out related tasks independently.
