Terms at a glance
This summary explains the main points. It does not replace the full Terms and Conditions below. By using Care Learning or creating an account, you agree to the full terms.
- Who may register: Care Learning is primarily for adults who work, volunteer or undertake an appropriate placement with UK organisations that directly provide health, social care, early years and childcare, housing, homelessness, charitable, community or related support services.
- Some organisations and uses are restricted: Learner accounts must not be created or used principally for the purposes or benefit of training or apprenticeship providers, recruitment or staffing businesses, certain outsourced business-service organisations, consultancies, content resellers, competitors or organisations carrying out commercial research, benchmarking or similar activities. Apprentices, students and other learners may still be eligible when using Care Learning personally in connection with work, volunteering or a placement with an eligible direct-service organisation.
- Eligibility checks: We may ask for reasonable information about your organisation, role or intended use of Care Learning. Registration information, organisation details, email-domain information and eligibility declarations may be used to identify accounts requiring review. A keyword or automated screening indicator does not necessarily mean that you are ineligible.
- Educational content: Our courses and resources provide general education and information. They are not personal medical, clinical, legal, financial or regulatory advice.
- Check important information: Law, official guidance and professional practice can change. Before applying course content, check current authoritative sources and follow your employer’s policies, local procedures and professional requirements.
- Certificates are not qualifications: A Care Learning certificate records course completion. It does not confer a regulated qualification, establish competence, replace professional registration or authorise a clinical or regulated activity.
- Use your own account: Keep your sign-in details private. Do not share your account, and tell us promptly if you believe somebody else has accessed it.
- Inactive accounts: If we have no successful sign-in or relevant learning activity recorded for 12 calendar months, we may send account reminders. Accounts are not deleted automatically or in bulk. Each account is reviewed individually before deletion.
- Use the Service fairly: Automated access, content scraping, bulk downloading, unusually rapid course completion, advertising or monitoring bypasses and other misuse may result in access being restricted or withdrawn.
- Respect our content: Course materials are provided for your personal, non-commercial learning. You must not copy, republish, sell, distribute, scrape, systematically analyse or commercially reuse them without written permission.
- Paid content: If we offer paid content, the price, access arrangements and any additional purchase terms will be shown before you place an order. Applicable consumer rights are not affected.
- Learning records and privacy: We process account details, learning activity, assessment results and certificate records to operate the learning service. We may also process limited organisation and eligibility information where this is reasonably necessary to administer our eligibility requirements. More information appears in the Privacy Notice in Part 2.
- Age restriction: Care Learning is not intended for anyone under 18.
- Changes to these terms: We may update these terms. We will take reasonable steps to notify registered users before a material change takes effect.
Questions about these terms can be sent to info@carelearning.org.uk.
Part 1: Terms and Conditions of Use
1. About these terms
These Terms and Conditions of Use govern access to and use of carelearning.org.uk, its learner accounts, courses, assessments, certificates and other content or services made available through the website. In these terms, these are together called the Service.
References to Care Learning, we, us and our mean the operator of carelearning.org.uk. References to you and your mean the person who accesses or uses the Service.
By using the Service or creating an account, you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
The Privacy Notice in Part 2 explains how we process personal information in connection with the Service.
2. Eligibility and registration
2.1 Learner eligibility
Care Learning is a free learning service. Learner accounts are intended primarily for individuals aged 18 or over who work, volunteer or undertake an appropriate work placement with an organisation in the United Kingdom that directly provides health, social care, early years and childcare, housing, homelessness, charitable, community or related support services to people.
Eligibility is determined by the nature of the organisation, the individual’s connection with that organisation and the purpose for which Care Learning is being used. An organisation does not become eligible merely because it is a charity, public body, educational institution or other not-for-profit organisation.
An apprentice, student or other learner may be eligible where they are employed by, volunteer with or undertake an appropriate placement within an eligible direct-service organisation and use Care Learning for their own learning in connection with that role or placement.
We may, at our discretion, permit learner access in other circumstances where this is consistent with the purpose of Care Learning and these eligibility requirements.
The Service is not intended for children under 18. Anyone under 18 must not create an account or use the Service.
2.2 Restricted registrations and uses
A learner account must not be created or used on behalf of, or principally for the purposes or benefit of, an organisation whose activities include:
- providing commercial or funded training, e-learning, CPD, apprenticeship training or similar learning services to third parties;
- providing recruitment, employment agency, temporary staffing or labour-supply services;
- providing outsourced business, administrative or back-office services without directly delivering an eligible service to people;
- providing consultancy or advisory services where Care Learning is being used for the consultancy or for the benefit of clients;
- conducting market research, competitor research, commercial benchmarking or systematic analysis of learning services;
- developing, reselling, licensing or redistributing training or learning content; or
- copying, analysing, commercialising or otherwise exploiting Care Learning content or using the Service to develop, compare or improve a competing product or service.
This restriction includes employees, contractors, agents, representatives and other individuals registering principally for the purposes or benefit of an organisation described above.
An organisation is not treated as a training provider merely because it provides induction, workplace learning, supervision or staff development to its own employees as part of directly delivering an otherwise eligible health, care, early years, housing, charitable, community or related service.
Similarly, an individual is not automatically ineligible because they are completing an apprenticeship, qualification or other programme of study. They may remain eligible where they are using Care Learning for their own learning in connection with their work, volunteering or placement within an eligible direct-service organisation, rather than on behalf of or for the purposes of their training or education provider.
Unless Care Learning has given prior written permission, learner accounts must not be used to:
- provide or deliver training to third parties;
- obtain or access Care Learning content on behalf of an employer, client, training provider or other ineligible organisation;
- conduct competitor or market research;
- benchmark another training or learning service against Care Learning;
- systematically review, extract, record, download or reproduce Care Learning courses or resources;
- develop training materials, courses, assessments or competing learning services using Care Learning content; or
- resell, redistribute, sublicense or commercially exploit Care Learning content.
2.3 Eligibility checks and decisions
Care Learning may ask for reasonable information to establish or confirm whether a person meets the eligibility requirements. This may include information about their organisation, sector, role or relationship with the organisation and the purpose for which they intend to use Care Learning.
We may use reasonable registration and account checks, including organisation information, email-domain information, registration information and eligibility declarations, to identify registrations or accounts that may require further review.
An applicant or account holder will not necessarily be treated as ineligible solely because an automated check, keyword, email-domain indicator or other screening rule has been triggered.
Where eligibility is unclear, we may:
- ask the applicant or account holder for further information;
- ask them to complete or confirm an eligibility declaration;
- place the registration or account into manual review; or
- temporarily restrict access while an eligibility review is carried out.
Where reasonably practicable, a person whose eligibility is questioned will be given an opportunity to provide relevant information or explain their circumstances before a final decision is made.
We may refuse registration, restrict access or close an account where, following reasonable consideration of the available information, we reasonably believe that:
- the eligibility requirements are not met;
- the account has been created or is being used for a restricted purpose;
- materially inaccurate or misleading eligibility information has been provided; or
- the account is otherwise being used in breach of these Terms.
If a person believes that their organisation, circumstances or eligibility have been classified incorrectly, they may contact Care Learning and ask us to review the decision.
Providing false, materially misleading or deliberately concealed information about eligibility, an organisation, the user’s relationship with an organisation or the intended use of Care Learning is a breach of these Terms.
Eligibility decisions will be based on the eligibility requirements, the nature of the organisation and the intended use of the Service. We will not determine eligibility on the basis of a person’s protected characteristics or any other ground on which discrimination is prohibited by applicable law.
2.4 Lesson-access limits
We may limit the number of lessons that an account can access within a month. We reserve the right to apply this limit to any learner account.
3. Learner accounts and security
3.1 Account information and security
You must provide accurate account information and use only your own account. You must not share your username, password or other sign-in credentials.
You are responsible for taking reasonable steps to protect your account and for activity carried out using your credentials. Please notify us promptly at info@carelearning.org.uk if you believe that your account has been accessed without permission.
We may require you to reset your password or take another reasonable security step where this is needed to protect your account, other learners or the Service.
3.2 Inactive accounts and reminders
We may review a learner account when we have no successful sign-in or relevant learning activity recorded for 12 calendar months.
Our inactive-account process is:
- We send a first account reminder to the learner’s registered email address.
- If the account remains inactive, we may send a final warning seven days later.
- If there is still no recorded activity after a further seven days, the account may be placed in a manual deletion-review queue.
- Accounts are not deleted automatically or in bulk.
- An authorised administrator reviews each account individually before deciding whether deletion should proceed.
- A successful sign-in, relevant learning activity, administrative hold or another valid reason may prevent deletion.
Accounts that have never started a course are assessed using the same inactive-account process.
A learner can normally keep their account active by signing in before the stated deadline. Learners can contact us if they have forgotten their password, cannot access their account or believe our activity information is incorrect.
This inactive-account process is separate from any suspension or removal resulting from ineligibility, misuse or breach of these terms.
3.3 Consequences of account deletion
If an account is deleted, the learner will lose access to:
- their Care Learning account;
- course enrolments and progress;
- course completion history;
- certificates available through the account; and
- other learner records or downloads that require access to the account.
We may retain limited financial, security, support, complaint, legal or certificate-verification records where we have a lawful and documented reason to do so. Further information appears in the Privacy Notice in Part 2.
4. Acceptable use
You may use the Service only for lawful, personal and non-commercial learning. You must not use it in a way that interferes with another person’s rights or use of the Service.
You must not:
- harass, threaten or cause distress to another user;
- submit unlawful, abusive, obscene or harmful material;
- introduce malware or attempt to compromise the security or operation of the Service;
- gain or attempt to gain unauthorised access to an account, system or data;
- use bots, scripts, automated tools or bulk processes to access or complete courses;
- scrape, harvest, extract or systematically record course or website content;
- complete lessons or courses at a speed or in a manner reasonably indicating automated use, account sharing or other misuse;
- bypass or interfere with advertising, analytics, access controls, monitoring or reasonable rate limits;
- use learner accounts for market research, competitor research or service benchmarking;
- impersonate another person or misrepresent your eligibility; or
- help another person to carry out a prohibited activity.
5. Ownership and permitted use of content
The Service and its content, including text, assessments, software, graphics, photographs, audio, video and the selection and arrangement of those materials, belong to Care Learning or the relevant rights holder. They are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable permission to access the Service for your own non-commercial learning while you comply with these terms.
You may allow your browser to cache material needed to display the Service. You may also print or download a reasonable number of pages for your own personal study, provided that you do not alter the material or remove any copyright or ownership notice.
Unless we have given you written permission, you must not:
- copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, sublicense or commercially exploit any part of the Service;
- modify the content or create adaptations or derivative materials from it;
- separate an illustration, photograph, video, audio item or graphic from its accompanying context for reuse elsewhere;
- make course content available to another person or organisation;
- use the content to provide training to third parties; or
- use the content to develop, compare, train or improve another commercial service, dataset or automated system.
If you use the content in breach of these terms, your permission to use it ends immediately. We may require you to delete or return copies that you have made.
6. Learning content and learner responsibilities
6.1 Educational purpose
Care Learning courses and resources provide general education and information. They do not amount to personal medical, clinical, legal, financial, regulatory or other professional advice. They must not be treated as instructions for managing a particular person, incident or workplace situation.
Course content does not replace practical instruction, workplace induction, supervision, assessed competence or training that an employer, regulator, professional body or law requires.
6.2 Accuracy and changes in practice
We take reasonable care when preparing and reviewing content. However, legislation, official guidance, professional standards and accepted practice can change. Content may not address every circumstance and may not be suitable for every role, organisation or location.
Before applying information obtained through the Service, you must:
- check the current position using appropriate official or authoritative sources;
- follow your employer’s policies, risk assessments and local procedures;
- comply with the requirements of any relevant law, regulator or professional body; and
- obtain appropriate advice, practical training, equipment, supervision or authorisation where the activity requires it.
If different sources or local procedures conflict, do not rely on the course to resolve the conflict. Ask your employer, professional regulator or an appropriately qualified professional.
6.3 Suitability of courses
You are responsible for deciding whether a course is appropriate for your role, learning needs and professional requirements. If you are uncertain, obtain advice from your employer, professional regulator or an appropriately qualified trainer before enrolling or applying the content in practice.
Completing a course does not guarantee that you will pass an assignment, qualification, workplace assessment or other external assessment.
6.4 Clinical and regulated activities
You must not use a Care Learning course as authority to diagnose, treat, perform a clinical procedure or undertake any regulated activity.
Before undertaking such an activity, you are responsible for ensuring that you have the qualifications, registration, assessed competence, practical training, equipment, supervision and employer authorisation required for it.
Where a course describes a clinical procedure or safety practice, you must obtain any required practical and supervised training before attempting the activity.
6.5 Examples and content-production methods
Unless the content states otherwise, example answers, photographs, names and scenarios used for learning purposes are fictional or illustrative and should not be taken to describe a real person, workplace or event.
We may use a combination of internal authors, external writers, guest contributors, user-submitted material, outsourced services and AI-assisted tools when producing content. The method used to produce material does not remove your responsibility to carry out the checks described in this section before applying it in a professional context.
6.6 Reporting a possible error
If you believe content may be inaccurate or out of date, please contact info@carelearning.org.uk or use the available feedback function. We will assess the information provided and, where appropriate, correct or clarify the affected material. We are not required to adopt every suggestion or item of feedback.
6.7 CPD accreditation
Courses displaying a current CPD HSC Accredited mark have been accredited by CPD HSC following successful review against its CLEAR CPD Framework. Accreditation applies only to the named course and for the validity period shown in its Accreditation Record.
CPD accreditation provides course-level quality assurance. It does not make the course a regulated qualification, demonstrate an individual learner’s workplace competence or guarantee acceptance by every employer, regulator or professional body. Learners must continue to check current official guidance and follow their employer’s policies, local procedures and professional requirements.
7. Course completion and certificates
A Care Learning certificate confirms that the named learner completed the course identified on the certificate in accordance with the completion rules used by the Service.
A certificate does not, by itself:
- confer a regulated or vocational qualification;
- provide professional registration or accreditation;
- establish that the learner is competent to perform a particular activity;
- authorise the learner to diagnose, treat or perform a clinical procedure; or
- establish that an employer, regulator or professional body will accept the course as satisfying its requirements.
You are responsible for confirming whether a course and certificate meet the requirements relevant to your role. We may retain certificate and completion records where this is necessary for verification, legal, financial, security or other legitimate purposes, as described in the Privacy Notice.
8. Third-party content and links
The Service may link to or refer to websites and resources operated by other organisations. These resources are provided for convenience or further learning.
We do not control external websites and cannot guarantee that their content, availability, security or privacy practices will remain accurate or appropriate. A link does not, by itself, mean that Care Learning endorses the external organisation or all of its content.
You should check important third-party information against the originating organisation and other authoritative sources relevant to your role. When leaving Care Learning, review the external website’s own terms and privacy information.
9. User submissions
If the Service allows you to upload an assignment, photograph, forum post, comment or other material, you must have the right to submit it. You must not upload unlawful content or another person’s confidential, copyrighted or personal information without appropriate authority.
Do not upload special category or other sensitive personal information unless the Service specifically asks for it and you are authorised to provide it.
You retain ownership of material that you submit. You give Care Learning a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to store, reproduce and display it within the Service to the extent needed to administer the relevant course, provide support, maintain records and carry out internal quality improvement.
We will not publish your personal information outside the Service on the basis of this permission alone.
10. Paid content and consumer cancellation
This section applies if Care Learning offers a paid course or another paid digital service.
Before an order is placed, the applicable price, access arrangements and any product-specific conditions will be displayed at checkout or otherwise provided to you. Payment may be processed by an authorised third-party payment provider. Care Learning does not store full payment-card details where payment is handled by that provider.
If you purchase as a consumer, you may have a legal right to cancel the contract within 14 days of entering into it. Details of how to cancel will be provided at checkout or in the order confirmation.
If you ask us to provide immediate access to digital content during the cancellation period, we will ask for your express consent to immediate supply and your acknowledgement that your cancellation right will be lost when supply begins. That right is lost only where the legal requirements for immediate supply have been met.
Nothing in this section reduces a refund, repair, replacement, price-reduction or other remedy available under applicable consumer law. Any additional cancellation or refund terms presented for a particular product operate alongside those statutory rights.
11. Availability, maintenance and security
We aim to keep the Service available, but we do not guarantee continuous or error-free access. The Service may be unavailable because of maintenance, security work, technical faults, internet or hosting failures, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Where reasonably practicable, we will give registered learners advance notice of planned work likely to cause significant disruption.
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the Service and learner information. No online system can be guaranteed to be completely secure or free from harmful components. You are responsible for keeping your own device, browser, software and security protection appropriately updated.
Nothing in this section limits a right or remedy that the law gives you.
12. Suspension and termination
12.1 Temporary restriction or suspension
We may temporarily restrict or suspend an account where we reasonably believe this is necessary to:
- establish or review whether the account holder meets the eligibility requirements in section 2;
- investigate information suggesting that an account may have been created or used for a restricted purpose;
- investigate suspected misuse, automated access, scraping, account sharing, unusually rapid course completion or other prohibited activity;
- protect the Service, its content, another learner or a third party;
- respond to a security incident, legal requirement or regulatory concern; or
- investigate a suspected breach of these Terms.
A temporary restriction or suspension does not necessarily mean that we have concluded that the account holder has acted improperly or is ineligible.
Where eligibility is being reviewed, we may ask the account holder for reasonable information about their organisation, role, relationship with an organisation or intended use of Care Learning.
Where reasonably practicable, we will tell the account holder why access has been restricted and give them an opportunity to provide relevant information, explain their circumstances or remedy the issue before a final decision is made.
12.2 Eligibility decisions
Following an eligibility review, we may:
- restore or continue access where we are satisfied that the eligibility requirements are met;
- ask the account holder to provide further information or confirmation;
- maintain reasonable restrictions while relevant information remains outstanding; or
- close the account where we reasonably believe that the eligibility requirements are not met or that the account is being used principally for a restricted purpose.
An automated screening rule, keyword, email-domain indicator or similar flag will not necessarily result in account closure by itself.
If an account holder believes that their organisation, circumstances or eligibility have been classified incorrectly, they may contact Care Learning and ask us to review the decision.
We may reconsider an eligibility decision where relevant new information is provided.
12.3 Closure for breach or misuse
We may close an account without further warning where:
- a serious or deliberate breach of these Terms has occurred;
- the breach cannot reasonably be remedied;
- materially false, misleading or deliberately concealed information has been provided about eligibility, identity, an organisation or the intended use of the Service;
- the account has been used for unauthorised automated access, systematic content extraction, commercial exploitation or another serious prohibited purpose;
- continued access presents a material security or legal risk; or
- closure is required by law.
Where a breach is capable of being remedied, we may instead give the account holder a warning or reasonable opportunity to correct the issue. We may close the account if the misuse or breach continues.
12.4 Future registration
Where an account has been closed because of serious misuse, deliberate circumvention of the eligibility requirements or another material breach of these Terms, we may take reasonable measures to prevent or review future registrations connected with the same person or organisation.
Any such measures will be proportionate to the reason for the restriction and will be subject to applicable data-protection and equality law.
12.5 Unlawful or reportable conduct
Where we reasonably believe that conduct is unlawful or that information should be reported, we may provide relevant information to a court, law-enforcement authority, regulator, professional body or other appropriate authority where disclosure is permitted or required by law.
12.6 Effect of account closure
When an account closes, permission to access and use the Service ends.
The account holder may lose access to course enrolments, progress, completion history, certificates and other records available through the learner account.
We may retain limited information where we have a lawful and documented reason to do so, including for security, eligibility administration, dispute resolution, certificate verification, legal obligations or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims. Further information appears in the Privacy Notice in Part 2.
Provisions concerning intellectual property, submitted content, liability, privacy, governing law and any other provision intended to continue after account closure will survive closure.
If we discontinue paid access for reasons unrelated to a user’s breach, any entitlement to continued access or a refund will be determined under the applicable purchase terms and consumer law.
13. Changes to the Service or these terms
We may change the Service or these terms to reflect changes in the law, technology, security requirements, our services or the way the learning platform operates.
The current version will be published on the website. Where a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to notify registered users before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after the effective date of the updated terms means that you accept the updated version.
If a material change adversely affects paid access and you are a consumer, this section does not remove any cancellation, refund or other remedy available under applicable law.
14. Liability and statutory rights
14.1 Rights that are not excluded
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for:
- death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- a breach of a right or obligation that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited; or
- any other liability that the law does not allow us to restrict.
If you use the Service as a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected. This includes applicable rights concerning digital content and services being supplied as described, with satisfactory quality and with reasonable care and skill.
14.2 Consumer loss
Where you use the Service as a consumer, Care Learning is responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of contract or failure to use reasonable care and skill.
We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not reasonably foreseeable, was not caused by us, or relates to a business or professional activity undertaken by someone acting as a consumer.
14.3 Reliance on educational content
To the extent permitted by law, Care Learning is not responsible for loss caused by a learner:
- treating general educational material as advice for a particular person, incident or situation;
- failing to check current official guidance, workplace procedures or professional requirements;
- acting outside their qualifications, competence, role or authority; or
- attempting an activity without the training, equipment, supervision or approval required for it.
These exclusions apply only to the extent that the learner’s act or omission caused or contributed to the loss. They do not exclude Care Learning’s responsibility for its own negligence or breach of a legal duty.
14.4 Business and professional losses
Subject to section 14.1, Care Learning is not responsible for loss of business, profit, revenue, contracts, anticipated savings or goodwill, or for indirect or consequential loss, arising from use of the Service for a business or professional purpose.
No financial cap on Care Learning’s liability is created by this section.
15. Complaints
If you have a complaint about the Service or paid content, please contact info@carelearning.org.uk and provide enough information for us to investigate.
If you are a consumer and a complaint concerning paid content cannot be resolved, we will provide information about any applicable alternative dispute resolution process where the law requires us to do so.
Data-protection complaints are dealt with under the Privacy Notice in Part 2.
16. Governing law and courts
These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales.
The courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom, any mandatory right to use the courts in the part of the United Kingdom where you live is not affected.
17. Events outside reasonable control
Care Learning is not responsible for delay or failure to perform an obligation where this results from circumstances outside its reasonable control, such as failure of third-party telecommunications or internet infrastructure, serious hosting disruption, natural disaster, epidemic, government action or industrial dispute.
This section does not remove any consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
18. General provisions
If a court or other competent authority finds part of these terms unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply.
A failure or delay by Care Learning in enforcing a provision does not waive its right to enforce that provision later.
These terms, the Privacy Notice, any product-specific purchase terms and information presented at checkout form the agreement concerning your use or purchase of the relevant Service. If product-specific terms conflict with these general terms, the product-specific terms will apply to that product, subject to applicable law.
