Free online training for youth workers
Youth work is about meeting young people where they are — on the street, in a club, at school or online — and building the kind of trusted relationships that help them stay safe and thrive. It takes patience, skill and up-to-date knowledge of the risks young people face today.
At Care Learning, our free youth work courses are written for people who support young people across the UK, whether you work in a local authority, a charity, a community project or a detached outreach team. Each course is practical and self-paced, works on any device, and comes with a free certificate for your CPD and records.
Youth work happens in all sorts of settings — youth clubs and detached sessions, schools and colleges, sports and arts projects, and increasingly online. Wherever it takes place, the same skills apply: listening, building trust and helping young people make sense of the pressures around them.
Because every course is free and self-paced, you can use them for your own development, to support new volunteers, and to keep a whole team working to the same standard.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why youth work training matters
Young people face real and evolving risks — criminal and sexual exploitation, county lines, serious violence, and the lasting effects of adverse childhood experiences. Workers who understand these issues can spot the warning signs early, respond well, and help steer young people away from harm.
Good youth work is built on trust. Training helps you engage young people who may be wary of adults, communicate in a way that lands, and hold professional boundaries while still being warm and approachable.
It also strengthens safeguarding across your organisation, and gives commissioners and partners confidence that your team is skilled, current and working to recognised good practice.
Many of the young people you work with will have experienced difficult things at home, at school or in their community. Understanding how that shapes behaviour helps you respond with patience rather than judgement, and to see the young person behind the behaviour.
Training also helps you know your limits — when to offer support yourself, when to signpost, and when a concern needs to be escalated to keep a young person safe.
